Mountain passes in France.

From Tour de France monuments in the Alps to the balcony roads of the Pyrenees, these are the French passes worth planning a ride around.

French pass country splits neatly into two moods. The Alps bring altitude, long valleys, and high paved roads such as Iseran, Galibier, Bonette, and Agnel. The Pyrenees are lower but more intimate, with Tourmalet, Aubisque, Soulor, and Aspin stacked close enough for multi-pass cycling days.

The profiles below focus on route character as much as elevation: where the climb opens up, which side carries the classic approach, and which passes naturally combine into a loop.

The highest summits below: Col de la Bonette (2,802 m), Col de l'Iseran (2,764 m), Col Agnel (2,744 m), Col du Galibier (2,642 m). Each card opens a full profile with elevation, surface, season, gradient, nearby passes, and route notes.

Compare summit height alongside road character — a long paved through-road fits a different kind of day than a short, steep dead-end climb. Check season and surface before committing, then use the nearby-pass links to chain a longer route together.
